In celebration of our second decade, MBE is commissioning a new work, which will connect the Baroque cantata tradition to the current artistic scene of the Twin Cities. This commission is for a modern-day cantata, based on contemporary text, by local composer and harpsichordist, Asako Hirabayashi. It will pay homage to the texts used by J. S. Bach, which were relevant to and reflective of his times. This new composition will evoke the powerful and dynamic creative period of the 18th century, when the vast majority of music performed was new.

Asako Hirabayashi is a renowned and acclaimed composer in the Twin Cities and beyond. MBE is thrilled to commission her to commemorate our eleventh year. Her world premiere will be paired with two of J. S. Bach’s vintage Cantatas.
